WEDDING CEREMONY SERMON
It’s common to grow up daydreaming about LOVE and even think that’s the answer to many of life’s problems. Once you find it, all is well. It is what all the best books and box office hits are written about. The rush of “falling,” the adventure of learning someone new. To be wined and dined and “discovering.” To lose sleep because you’re OBSESSED with someone. Sounds pretty good.

But what is love without time?
The opportunity to deepen connection requires time.
Commitment offers this.

Today we are standing here, supporting the two of you, as you step into commitment; as you vow to give each other the hottest commodity out there - your time.

Of all the gifts you could offer someone, commitment gifts time: the greatest luxury of life.
You get each other’s.

Time grows things miraculous like babies and fresh bread. It dries nail polish and house paint. It changes the colors of leaves on trees and which way the wind blows. It is the foundation of patience. It can calm the angry, heal the heartbroken; it is the best teacher.

Commitment changes relationship.
Commitment gives time.
You get each other’s.

The Rolling Stones and Taylor Swift sing about it. Cher goes on and on about “turning it back.” Time is money, it waits for no one, and it flies while you’re having fun. Killing it is rare and wonderful. And my God is it easy to waste.

Time presents the opportunity to understand someone, to see them vulnerable, to hate them one day and love them harder the next. It gives us the chance to make mistakes, apologize, and forgive. To experience real human connection is exaggerated with time. It creates experience and offers the chance to reveal things about one another no one else knows.

You learn these things, in time.
And you get each other’s.

We all want more of it. So we can DO MORE: love more, learn more, experience more.
Time gives way to the richest parts of life. It is life.
You get someone’s.

You get to know a bigger, better, deeper part of existing. You get to experience incomparable connection, to be truly and wholly known, because of commitment. Because of time. Because of each other.

Today, you are gifting each other the luxury of time. The promise to build together, to breakdown together, to experience, forever … together.
Today, you are giving the greatest gift.
Bride’s name and Groom’s name, this is your time.
